Code Compliance Inspection

Our inspectors are certified through the BOABC (Building Officials’ Association of BC), the same professional organization that certifies municipal building inspectors across British Columbia.

 

In many rural areas of British Columbia, building permits and municipal building inspections may not be required because there is no local building inspection authority.

 

Even in these areas, buildings are still expected to comply with the BC Building Code.

 

The BC Building Code states:

“The owner of a building shall be responsible for carrying out the provisions of this Code in relation to that building.”
— BC Building Code 1.2.1.2.(1)

 

This means the responsibility for ensuring a building complies with the BC Building Code ultimately rests with the owner and builder, even where no municipal inspections are required.

Why Building Code Inspections Are Important

Independent building code inspections can help confirm that a project meets the requirements of the BC Building Code and accepted construction standards.

 

These inspections may be required or requested by:

• Construction lenders providing building mortgages
• Insurance companies
• Property owners seeking confirmation of code compliance
• Buyers purchasing newly constructed homes

All new homes in British Columbia must also be registered with BC Housing, which requires that new construction meet the requirements of the BC Building Code.
